About this site

About Knee Replacement Explained

An independent, plain-language guide to total knee replacement for patients, families, clinicians and hospital teams.

Why this site exists

People considering knee replacement face a lot of choices: whether and when to have surgery, partial or total, cemented or cementless, robotic or not. Most of what is online is either written for surgeons or written to sell a specific product or hospital. This site tries to sit in between: clear enough for a patient, sourced well enough for a clinician, and fair to every implant and technology.

Who writes it

Knee Replacement Explained is written and maintained by an independent author with a professional background in orthopaedic and reconstruction medical devices.

Conflict of interest. The author works in the medical device industry, for a company that makes cranial implants. That company does not make knee implants, and it does not own, fund, review or approve this site. To keep the content fair, manufacturers are listed alphabetically, no product is ranked above another, and every comparative claim links to a published source so you can check it yourself.

The site is not written or reviewed by a physician. It is for education only and is not medical advice. Decisions about surgery, implants and recovery belong to you and a surgeon who knows your history.
